A 84-a ediţie a premiilor de film OSCAR s-a desfăşurat la Kodak Theatre din Los Angeles, „gazdă” fiind binecunoscutul actor Billy Crystal. Cele mai multe nominalizări le-a primit filmul 3D „Hugo”, de Martin Scorsese, urmat de „The Artist„, „Moneyball” şi „The Descendants„. Printre actorii cu şanse la statuetele de anul acesta au fost George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Jean Dujardin, Glenn Close, Meryl Streep, Michelle Williams, Rooney Mara.
